How to Stop Gate Crashers and Fake Tickets at Your Event

Shared screenshots, forwarded invite links and printed copies are how most events get overcrowded. Here is how to make sure only real ticket holders get in, once each.

Short answer: give every guest a personal QR ticket that works only once, and scan it at the gate. With mySmartAccessCard, the first scan turns green with the guest's name. Any second scan of the same ticket turns orange and shows when it was first used, so a screenshot cannot get a second person in.

Why paper lists and plain links fail

A name on a list can be claimed by anyone who knows it. A general invite link gets forwarded to group chats. A ticket picture can be screenshotted and shared ten times. The fix is making each ticket personal and single use.

For paid events

  1. Tickets are issued only after Paystack confirms the payment, so nobody gets in on an unpaid order.
  2. Every ticket has its own QR code and code number.
  3. Ushers scan with any phone. The screen shows the ticket type, so a Regular ticket cannot walk into the VIP area unnoticed.

For free, invite-only events

  1. Protect your invite link with a PIN, and set how many people can register from it.
  2. Guests see a clear warning that anyone not invited by you will be removed.
  3. Each guest gets their own link to invite a set number of friends, which closes when the invites are used.
  4. You can remove anyone from the guest list, and their ticket stops working at once.

At the gate

Share a door link and door PIN with each usher. If the PIN gets out, change it in one tap and the old one stops working. The scanner keeps working on bad network and catches up later.

Questions people ask

How do I stop people using the same ticket twice?

Use single-use QR tickets. On mySmartAccessCard, the first scan turns green and any later scan of the same ticket turns orange with the time it was first used.

How do I stop my invite link being forwarded?

Protect it with a PIN and set a limit on how many people can register from it. The link closes by itself when the limit is reached.

Do I need special scanners?

No. Ushers scan with their own phones using a door link and PIN.
