Shift Attendance for 24-Hour Businesses in Nigeria
Pharmacies, hospitals, security companies, hotels, filling stations and factories never close, so one opening time and one closing time cannot describe their day. Here is how mySmartAccessCard tracks Morning, Afternoon and Night shifts properly, with staff checking in by tapping a card.
Most attendance systems assume everyone resumes at 8am and closes at 5pm. A 24-hour pharmacy or a hospital ward does not work that way. Some staff start in the morning, some in the afternoon, some come in at night and leave the next morning. If the system only knows one opening time, a night nurse who arrives at 7:50pm looks eleven hours late, and a pharmacist who works the late shift looks like they left early.
mySmartAccessCard lets a business set up its real shifts and then judges every check-in against the shift that person actually came in for.
How it works
- 1In Settings, turn on Shifts and add each shift with a name, start time and end time. For example Morning 8:00am to 5:00pm, Afternoon 1:00pm to 9:00pm and Night 8:00pm to 8:00am.
- 2Staff check in and out by tapping their SmartAccess NFC card or scanning a QR code, the same way they always have.
- 3The app works out which shift each tap belongs to and saves the shift name on the record, so the dashboard reads Checked In, Night shift, 7:51pm, Early.
- 4Lateness, check-out, hours and pay are all measured against that person's own shift, not one business-wide time.
Shifts can overlap
Real handover schedules overlap on purpose. A Morning shift that ends at 5pm and an Afternoon shift that starts at 1pm share four hours, and that is fine. When a tap falls inside two shifts, the app picks the shift that started most recently, because someone tapping in has almost always just started a shift rather than continued one from hours earlier.
What a shift business gets
- Night shifts that run past midnight, counted as one shift from check-in to check-out.
- Early Check-in, so staff who arrive before their shift are counted for it and marked Early.
- Automatic check-out at each person's own shift end when someone forgets to tap out.
- Overtime that only counts once a manager approves it.
- Salary worked out per shift, from real hours. See payroll and salary computation.
- A staff leaderboard that gives one point for every shift worked properly: on time in, and out at or after the shift ends.

Questions people ask
Can I track staff attendance for a 24-hour business in Nigeria?
Yes. mySmartAccessCard lets you set up Morning, Afternoon and Night shifts (or any shifts you run), and every check-in is matched to the right shift automatically, including night shifts that end the next morning.
How do staff check in for a shift?
Staff tap their SmartAccess NFC card or scan a QR code. The app records the exact time and works out which shift the tap belongs to.
Can shifts overlap?
Yes. Overlapping shifts are allowed because real handover schedules overlap. When a tap falls inside two shifts, it is matched to the one that started most recently.
Is lateness measured per shift?
Yes. Each arrival is compared with the start of that person's shift, using the grace period you set, and marked Early, On Time or Late.
